Celebrity sightings in Wilmington as 40+ stars gather to fight kidney disease

One of the biggest gatherings of celebrities in southeast North Carolina is set to hit Wilmington for the 10th Annual Willie Stargell Celebrity Golf Tournament to fight kidney disease from Friday, November 9 – Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Country Club of Landfall.

Some of the more than 40 celebrities in attendance include Giancarlo Esposito of NBC’s Revolution, Baseball Hall of Fame Member Joe Morgan, Grizz Chapman of NBC’s 30 Rock, and Insanity Fitness Trainer Shaun T.

The weekend long event includes an autograph session that is open to the public on Saturday, November 10 at 3pm at the Landfall Park Hampton Inn; the golf tournament at the Country Club of Landfall; and an auction dinner and dance where attendees have the chance to win tickets to the 2013 Masters.

“We are thrilled to have such a big turnout from the celebrities and great support from the community for the 10th annual event,” said Willie Stargell Foundation President Margaret Weller-Stargell.

The Willie Stargell Celebrity Golf Tournament raises money for the Willie Stargell Foundation to fight kidney disease in honor of Willie Stargell who died of the disease in 2001. Stargell was a Major League Baseball Player for the Pittsburgh Pirates and was inducted in to the National Hall of Fame in 1988, his first year of eligibility. He lived in Wilmington, NC with his wife Margaret Weller-Stargell. Through funds raised at last year’s event, the foundation contributed $5,000 each to the UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University’s Transplant Outreach Programs; $10,000 to the DaVita Emergency Fund; and $30,000 to the Willie “Pops” Stargell Kidney Dialysis Center at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, which just used the grant to purchase two new dialysis machines for patient care.
